Scout Training for Parents

Now relax!  We're not (necessarily) expecting you to learn to tie a bowline knot or cook over a fire or the like.  There are, however, some things we're asking all parents to do so they're more informed on Scouting AND have certain minimum "formal" training in Scouting the enables them greater flexibility in the roles they can perform for the Troop.  There's also other training which is position/role specific.

Youth Protection Training (YPT):  The Boy Scouts of America requires that any adult who is serving in any Adult supervisory role at a Scout Troop function that will involve "direct contact" with a youth Scout must complete the BSA's Youth Protection Training course.  As any Troop 76 parent could  be asked to help out with supervising a Service Project or run a Merit Badge Class or simply drive a group of Scouts to an event or outing, completing the YPT is something every Troop 76 parent is asked to do.

The course can be taken through on on-line, interactive session which will take only 30-40minutes of your time and you only need to take it once every 3 years to be "current" on your YPT training.

To access the course, just click on this link:

If you've never taken a BSA course you'll need to establish a training account by using the "Click here to Login" link and then following directions to first register a new account for yourself and then Login to your personal (and private) account to take the course. The advantage of this technique is that your BSA training record will always be just a few mouse clicks away and you can do a refresher, remind yourself of what courses you've already taken, print out completion certificates, etc.

Although not "required" as the YPT course is for Troop 76 Parents, there are other courses at the BSA Training Center that you might also want to take.  Some would be useful, even if you're not going to be a BSA Adult leader, just from a general safety perspective.  The link to the BSA Training offerings home page is: http://olc.scouting.org/ .  Courses found there include:
